Nick Hutchings Architect Ltd.

ABOUT NICK

I have been a qualified architect and a member of the RIBA and ARB since being elected in May 1994.

I started in architecture in 1980, working for the architect and surveyor, Brian Godfrey in Teignmouth, South Devon, working in his office and under his tutorage before and whilst at college and university.

After completing the Part 2 of the architectural course (post graduate) at the Plymouth School of Architecture, I was nominated for the RIBA Silver Medal by the school and awarded the schools design award. This final work was exhibited in various galleries in London. After university I moved north and qualified while working in North Yorkshire for Nick Gillibrand Architects. During this time and the difficulties felt by all in the 1990s I was made redundant in 1993. At the same time I was invited to Germany to work on two competition entries for a Munich based practice by a fellow architect I had met when I started at Nick's. We achieved a second place and a recommendation in the top twenty from 300+ entries. I returned to and stayed with Nick for another 6 years, dealing with mainly residential clients building one off houses, barn conversions and multi site developments. Its here the family life began and our two children were born in Kendal.

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND PACE OF LIFE

A university friend and architect approached me about working in Nottingham. In February 1999 I started working for the Henry Mein Partnership, where I worked for 15 years rising from employee, associate and then Partner after six years. Here the experience grew over the fifteen years dealing, as project architect on commercial work and I had the opportunity to work on a variety of developments such as the Gala Bingo building in Chapham, converting mill and warehouse buildings in mainly Nottingham, new build apartment buildings, student accommodation in St. Ann's Nottingham for Victoria Hall Ltd and later taking over the housing department and managing house builders on developments from 2 up to 200+ nationally.

WHAT NEXT?

In February 2014 I made the decision to 'go it alone' after having a lot of encouragement from family, friends and clients and had the opportunity to set up Nick Hutchings Architect Ltd. in September 2014 and basically picked up from where I left off. I am still dealing with residential developers and the projects include extensions, one off houses and sites with multiple units, apartment buildings and retail stores.

WELL

In 2023 I will have been in the industry for 40+ years and can bring a depth of experience to bear on all types of development from small or large alike. I still have the passion for the work and continue to enjoy fulfilling the aspirations of clients and developers.
